Romans 3:23-24

Good Afternoon! I hope you all had a great weekend. This weekend my daughter started her gymnastics lesson right at her nap time. She did pretty good but fell asleep in the car on the way home. This morning I found the new challenge over at Stampin' Sisters in Christ I am really enjoying their challenges not only because I get to make cards but more importantly it is really making me look at scripture differently. This challenges scripture is

"For everyone has sinned, we all fall short of God's glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Jesus Christ when he freed us from the penalty for our sins."
Romans 3:23-24

"USE BRIGHT COLOURS ONLY (NO BLACK,BROWN,NEUTRAL)"

My first though for this challenge was to create a chalk board card. But after reading the rules "no black, brown or neutral" I had to scrap that idea. I do want to share with you why my mind went to a chalk board. My daughter is 4 and I am teaching her how to write  her numbers, alphabet and a few words. We have a chalk board that she practises on. When ever she makes a mistake she can just wipe it off (she uses a kleenex) and you would never know there was a mistake. I view us much like the piece of chalk and our lives like the chalk board. We go through life often making mistakes (sinning) but much like the kleenex God is there to wipe away our sins if we ask him to.

What I Used:
Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps: Your Friendship
Memento Ink: Tuxedo Black
3 Girl JAM: Crinkle Ribbon Cherry Lipstick
Cuttlebug Embossing Folder: Perfectly Paisley
Martha Stewart Fringing Scissors
Spellbinders Nestabilites: Big Scalloped Ovals SM
Buttons

Much like my life, my card may not have turned out like I originally planned but in the long run I think it turned out even better. Like the saying goes "tell God your plans and He laughs". Well when I was in high school I decided I wanted to be married by the age 21, have my first baby by 23 just like my parents. God actually didn't laugh at those plans He actually let those things happen. What wasn't in "my plans" was to be separated by the age of 23 and divorced by 27. Through that I have learned that it's ok to have "my plans" but I had forgotten one very important thing. I forgot to ask God what "His Plans" were for my life. What we "want" might not always be what "need".  I "wanted" those things (to be married and have a baby) but I also "needed" to go through what I went through (separation and divorce) to realize what I "needed" to look at was "God's Plan" for my life. My life isn't perfect by any means and it has been a slow process but I know that God has wiped my "chalk board" clean so that I can start over again.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

I am also entering this card into the

  1. Hi Kristan! Thank you for sharing in our challenge today and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this Scripture and on a personal level here. Your chalkboard idea is PERFECT! It just goes to show how everyone can apply Scripture to their own unique and very individual experiences in their lives. Sometimes I think it'd be fun to let everyone come up with their own challenge just based on a Scripture verse and see how different they'd be! I like what you said about God's plans vs. our own. His ways are higher and His thoughts are higher than our own. His plans are always better for us than what we can plan for ourselves.
You've blessed me this morning... it's nice to "Meet" you!!

  5. Kristan,

Beautiful job on your card. Thanks so much for your openness. I think most of us get off track at some point with our own plans and forget to ask God what His plans are. Thanks so much for the reminder.

  6. Gorgeous colors Kristan!!!! I like your homemade flower!!! I really enjoyed your post and I agree totally... All my plans were put aside when God planned that I would have Michael who had bowel problems at birth and had to have surgery then disimpacted every day of his life by me...He also planned that Michael would be dignosed at the age of three with Autism and that he would have to have surgery this fall on both of his feet... He also planned that I would have Probable MS or Fibromyalgia (still unknown)... Most of ALL!!! God planned to give me amazing strength through it all and I accepted, totally surrendered instead of resisting it by wishing none of it happened or making it my story... As a result I have the most amazing home enviroment with lots of laughing...acceptance is everything and Acceptance is putting all trust in knowing that God with see us through.... thank you so much for this post, you are in my prayers.

    4. I really hope so too Kristan ...There is so much help that can be put into place right away which will make a huge difference in this precious girl... children learn so much in their foundation years and it would be good to start that type of routine now for it would be harder for this little girl to accept later which in turn makes it hard on the parents. Let me know what happens please! Can you write me at this email so I can give you ideas how to gently talk to your friend!! I would love to help what ever way I can, never hesitate to talk to me about this... hugs Naomi

  10. What a wonderful post, Kristan. Thanks so much for sharing your story. It's funny how you wanted to be married so young though. I didn't want to marry until my 30s but ended up getting married just after I turned 23!!
Your card is beautiful! The embossing looks wonderful and I love the way you did the ribbon!
